KA Magazine’s acceptance speech

“I would like to thank my mother, God, the Universe. The lady at the fruit store in the market who always has the best avocados in the city…Hmm I just love avocados. Did I thank God?Well, I thank God again. I want to say a special thank you to all my fans; all you people who like me! You really like me! I am so touched, really I am and this award is for you, all of you.

Oh what’s that!? It’s not an award ceremony, it’s just a picture of Ashley King with the first copy of me (KA magazine Vol.5) in her lovely hands… Ok that’s cool. Well then, thank God that I’m here!

KA Magazine Vol.5 is finally here.

Due to our recent US deal we have a limited amount for our peeps, so come and get you KA on.

Why are models so darned tall : Make-up artists Kick Ass

Actually the reason is  that they make it easier to just slip clothing on and off when you only have 1 minute to change during a show… this definitely helps. If you want to figure this one,  just imagine taking off your dress, and shoes, putting on a new dress, shoes and accessories all in one minute without messing your hair or make-up—that is definitely a sight to see.
But really, my hat is definitely off to the un sung hero here: the make-up artist. No disrespect to the hair peeps, the lighting techs, etc. but it is truly the make-up people that bring the magic. KA just wants to give a general shout out to all you make-up soldiers out there and a special bupp bupp!! to Susan Morales (pictured here with model Dia) who held it down for KA Vol 5.

Happy International Women’s Day ladies, babies and little girls.

International Women’s Day has been celebrated for more than 100 years, and even though I knew it existed, it was always somewhere in the back of my mind sort of like my birthdays actually. An important day, but one that still never made it to the front of my mind like say, rent every month.

This has all changed thanks to an amazing woman, Bita Catellan, who has made me see the full importance of such a day. The stats are staggering, women all over the world in ratio to men are apx. 1.1 males to females, in a world with a population of close to 7 billion – you get the point. Yet, despite many success in empowering women, the issues still exist ranging from cultural, political to economic. For a full read just Google® “women’s rights 2012″.

I for one am all for International Women’s Day, or like in some areas of the world, Women’s week. But I really think it should be more like International Women’s Year. Yes, each year at the beginning of the year we are made aware of the following: Nothing and no one would exist PERIOD if it were not for women. To hammer the point home, let’s even get clearer. There would be no Google, no Face Book,no iPad, no great wall of China, no Space Shuttle Challenger, No Mona Lisa, or music of any kind, KA Magazine, and NO PEOPLE.

So I for one am all for International women’s day, but even though the themes such as celebrating women’s roles in the economic prosperity of rural, remote and Northern regions are valid and well needed, we should never forget the bigger theme. Thank you ladies for the survival of our species.

The most creative city in Canada

The term “Creative City” really is misleading as a City in and of itself cannot be creative, but in the case of Montreal I do think that the “City” does play an integral role in the creativity of its artists. We have to be all somewhat creative to get on in Montreal. The rules so to speak, are not as cut and clear as in other cities. Case in point; go to a stop light in Mtl. observe – now go to a stop light (as a pedestrian) in say, T.O. and observe…

Montreal just seems to bring out the creatives, as the song goes “If you can make it here you can make it any where”, a reference to NYC. But I believe that if you can make it in Montreal as an artist, you can make it anywhere. It is not easy to be an artist period, but like Q-Tip, from A Tribe Called Quest so eloquently said in a recent interview: “This is not what I do, this is what I am, there is no retirement from what I am”.

KA Magazine caught up with designer Ifigenia Papadimitriou, for Montreal’s own Bod&Christensen between her travels to China, India and Vegas in between, we had a little glimpse in the mercurial mind of the artist. This drop dead gorgeous young designer is an example of why Montreal is so darned creative, and if that is not enough, she also is case in point for my second argument: Montreal has the most beautiful women in the world. Full interview with Ifigenia in KA Vol.5.

KA Loves : KARMA

We’ve been about Karma since the very first issue of KA Magazine. With the discovery of Fisker Automotive, our love affair with Karma was sealed. This is a vehicle that has brought new meaning to the term “hybrid car”. Imagine driving a car that is not only energy efficient but also has the sleek curves and engine power of a Vantage. Not too difficult for designer Henrik Fisker (interviewed in KA Vol. 1) who was previously the design director at Aston Martin. Here’s a quick snapshot: Up front there’s a 260-hp, GM-supplied four-cylinder engine, and an American-made lithium-ion battery pack; a twin AC motor straddles the rear axle that delivers 402 horsepower; beautiful aluminum skin radiates; a solar-cell roof impresses; faux suede interiors are sumptuous; and rescued California wildfire hardwood give it all an earthy touch. To make things sweeter, this sexy beast is now available in Canada! Fisker Automotive has developed partnerships with luxury dealers in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto so we will finally start seeing the Karma on Canadian roads – www.fiskerautomotive.com

KA Loves : Daniel Stanford Art

We discovered Daniel  Stanford like all good things: by chance (and a hot cup of coffee on a cold winter’s day). No really, that is exactly how it happened! I was sitting having coffee, and this beautiful man happens to walk by and we both say “hey! I know you! What’s up?” Well what’s up is nothing less than the most beautiful photo to artwork I have seen. The man loves beauty and it shows, but his love of beauty doesn’t stop and the female form, for his images of horses – as one lover of Daniel Stanford’s work enthused “made me cry”.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Actually, more like Breakfast at the Ritz, and then shopping at Tiffany’s! Following its decision to extend its reach in the Canadian market, it is no surprise Tiffany & Co. has partnered with the newly renovated Ritz-Carlton Montreal. The store which opened just 2 weeks ago, is situated in the heart of Montreal’s historic Golden Square Mile, on the corner of Sherbrooke and Mountain Streets, and occupies about 2,000 square feet within the historic building. KA Loves the new “Blue” on Sherbrooke Street.

WHY WE LOVE DONNA FELDMAN

What is it about stunning girls in black skin-tight body suits riding a black Duccati to a black helicopter, then proceeding to jump from afore-mentioned helicopter into open ocean while speeding matte black yacht (only one in the world anchored in Monte Carlo) cruises by to collect bathing suit clad passenger, wrapping her wet body in the plushest of black towels -- that is so dammed hot?
Everything! But wait, if this is not enough, the fact that the girl in mention is none other than the lovely and talented Ms. Donna Feldman, makes this scenario  thermometer blowing hot! If you were wondering, I did not make up the previous scenario check Donna out in her recent appearance as the Visa® Black Card girl. Now I’m sure you can figure out why KA chose Donna Feldman to be our Cover for VOL. 5.

125 YEARS OF ITALIAN MAGNIFICENCE – Exhibition SHANGHAI

KA loves Bvlgari – the luxe, the attention to detail and the fact that they’ve been making exquisite masterpieces since 1884! To celebrate this longevity, Bvlgari has launched an exhibition at the Aurora Museum in Shanghai, entitled “125 Years of Italian Magnificence” showcasing nearly 600 pieces created from the opening of the very first Bvlgari store on Via Sistina, Rome, 1884, through to the present day.
