MAMAN FEELS LIKE HOME IN SOHO

We were recently introduced to a very special culinary treat in NYC, a beautiful new bakery and cafe in Soho, which recently opened its doors earlier this month on October 6th.

Maman is a place where old world romantic Paris and modern New York become one; allowing your emotions to run wild, reminiscing about childhood memories of, mom’s home baked goodies: as the scent of simmering soups, baked goodies and fresh coffee waft through the room, making you feel sensuously – at home. This, coupled with the warm smiles of staff and patrons alike, is definitely a recipe for a bliss-filled cafe experience.

Maman is a collaboration between Armand Arnal, head chef at Michelin star restaurant La Chassagnette in the South of France, Benjamin Sormonte, entrepreneur, restaurateur and partner behind worldwide Experimental Group (Experimental Cocktail Club, La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels) and Elisa Marshall, baker, event planner and designer. Together, they created a menu that is reflective of each of their own mother’s best recipes. These comfort-food style menu, along with star chef Armand Arnal’s special touch, makes for perfect daily surprise meals; as the menu changes daily (we love that!).  Just imagine… hearty farm fresh salads, quiches, sandwiches and soups, assortments of pastries and desserts, a selection of artisanal breads made fresh daily (from country-style to focaccia) and coffee from Brooklyn’s Toby’s Estate – Merci.

“Everything we learned to cook and bake came from our moms and grandmothers” says Elisa Marshall. “So we wanted to reflect this love of the food we grew up with, for our clients at Maman.”

The design of the space is rustic and warm – with natural wood, exposed brick and tones of white and blue. Beautiful french patterns and tiles, mixed with old tabletops and custom wood furniture, give the space a truly authentic vintage feel.  Guests can place their order at a counter directly in front of an expansive open kitchen and bakery, providing a view of the chefs and bakers hard at work. Patrons can lounge in the front seating area or venture down a long hallway leading to a separate dining area with 25 seats, including a communal table, and large vintage windows providing an opposing view of the kitchen. Maman is a perfect KA fit and we are so thrilled to share this special treat in NYC with you
