SAINT-LAURENT IS ELECTRO GLAM

SAINT- LAURENT TAKES AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE

As we are sure all you fashion-lovers have (unless living under a rock), noticed that YSL is no more – this is actually a little on the sad side. The house of Yves Saint Laurent is no longer present, but in all fairness, we are also glad that this brand and memory of the famous “YSL” iconic image will remain un-touched and will live through archives and true (now vintage) collector’s pieces. Now, through the brand’s transformation, has come the new “Saint Laurent ” – a completely fresh take on modern glamour. Appointed creative director of Saint Laurent in March 2012, French fashion designer and photographer Hedi Slimane is internationally known for his association with rock bands like Mick Jagger, Jack White, Franz Ferdinand and The Kills, asking them to produce original music for catwalk shows.

One of the label’s first major changes was its name. Slimane made the decision to go from Yves Saint-Laurent, to Saint-Laurent. This change got mixed reactions from critics, including us. Since the luxury brand has taken this interesting turn, we’ve seen quite a few recognizable faces featured in campaigns. It was also recently announced that the wardrobe designed exclusively for the Rolling Stones’ tour, will also be available to buy.

This past year Hedi Slimane, has chosen quite the series of Artistic / Music personalities, to appear in Saint Laurent campaigns, and look books. His most recent pick is Daft Punk. The French rock electro duo is featured with customized sequin blazers, of course sporting their signature robot head gear.

With the electro group’s recent release of Random Access Memories, this appearance in Slimane’s Music Project Ad campaign has created quite the buzz for both the label, as well as the group. As Slimane continues to build anticipation, we are eager to see what is in store for this new, Saint-Laurent.
