Now, why am I waxing poetic on the merits of blueberry juice on a KA magazine blog? Well, it is because once again we at KA bring you another reason to be proud of Quebec. We have the best blueberries period, and not only do we have the best blueberries; we are blueberry blessed! I mean, there is a place not far form Montreal (not that far) where blueberries are so abundant, the people are actually called “Blueberries”.

This place so rich in blueberry splendor, is as French Canadian as it gets. What is this mythical land you might ask? Le Saguenay is the answer. If you think this is not true, it is rumored that there is so much blueberries in this mythical land that the residents here actually make blueberry sandwiches!

What is my point? (you are right, I am yet to make a point) Well my point is the same way you might not have known that such a place exists in our fair Kingdom; a place where french is the only words spoken. It is the same that you might not have known that the lovely Ms Ashley King is French! But not just French, she is French from… yes you guessed it the mythical land of the blueberries! (at least on her mothers side)

Now on her continued artistic journey, Ms. King will be talking to KA Magazine about her next Album “Parlez Moi D’amour”(he first French release).

We cannot wait, but as we are privy to all things Ashley King, here is an unreleased practice run for her upcoming video for the first single of her next album.

Now, if I could only get our hands on blueberry pies during the winter, all would be perfect in my winter wonderland!

With the ever growing saturation of generic pop artists and mainstream radio these days – We are all left wondering: Where has all the good music gone? Where are all the unique artists and singers that stand out from all the rest? You know… the kind of music that becomes timeless! Where is the Etta James of 2011? She must be out there somewhere…

The whole concept behind Buddhafish Music is to create moving music that quite simply – wows people! That’s it. That’s all. How did this fast-growing Boutique Music Agency begin?
It all started in 2009, when Founder of Buddhafish, noticed a raw talent in one of his then employees. At the time, he didn’t know much about the music recording industry – but his musical ear definitely did not fail in discovering such a star as Ashley King. The two started modestly writing and recording music together, only to see Ms. King explode onto the Montreal Music scene – having been nominated as “Best New Canadian Artist for 2010” in KA Magazine, as well as acquiring a significant amount of positive press coverage and a number of gigs at some of the hottest events/ festivals to take place in Canada.

Two Albums later, Ashley King can now be seen performing and promoting her fresh “electro-soul” music. With her angelic yet powerful voice mixed with heavy yet sultry beats, Ashley seems to turn people into die-hard fans wherever she goes. She is thrilled to be the first artist signed with Buddhafish Music, and watch as all her dreams come true! With its recent move to a chic and trendy loft close to the Atwater Market on St – Ambroise Street, you’d think you were walking into a over the top studio only seen in LA or New York! Who can believe we now have one in the heart of our fabulous little city – Montreal. Having begun with Ashley King, followed by Anna Liani, the label has naturally expanded its roster of talents and added new “family” members to the team: Inus*Aso, Lanisa Dawn, Stallz, and Ibo Natra.

Buddhafish Music – A full-service Artist Development Agency that does everything from working with an artist on song writing, music recording and production, all the way to the promotions side of photography, graphics, marketing and web design. The specialty of musical style is mainly soul, electronic, R&B, hip hop, house, and urban music. Humorist Benjamin Marquis will set the stage as Master of Ceremony of the event which will offer a number of performances by the worlds most talented Burlesque artists, such as Coco Lectric, Miss Sugarpuss, Bonbon Bombay et Michelle L’amour.

Burlesque Performer and Founder of the Festival Miss Scarlett James will grace the stage alongside special guests April March, Satan’s Angel and Tiffany Carter. “The Festival is in honor of this amazing period in time when night life was synonymous for Glamour and good times.” Says Scarlett.

A Fashion show will kick of the Festivities on the 25th, showcasing fine Parisian Lingerie from Lise Charmel as well as a sneak peak of the NEVIK Fall /Winter Collection by Montreal Designer Kevin Allwood.

The Fashion show will be followed by a music show “Oh Canada” featuring Canadian performers, headlined by Montreal’s own, singer ASHLEY KING.

This is merely just the beginning, as the whole weekend will be filled with sexy glamour at the Montreal Burlesque Festival 2011.

The Ashley King LIVE at St. James Benefit Concert was to raise awareness for the My Heaven Foundation — Building schools and orphanages in Jamaica.  Miss King delivered a smooth and sultry sound which the walls of the XO had never heard before — A truly memorable experience.

Singer Anna Liani also made a guest appearance on the 15th singing 3 songs from her upcoming album.

KA MAG : You are a multi-talented artist. You’ve worked in fashion design with one of the greatest Canadian Designers, you’re also working on your own collection and you will soon be launching your first album — Where does all your inspiration come from?

AK :  Inspiration comes from the people I meet, the places I visit and all my life experiences. I’ve been so fortunate to be around people who have shown me how to translate a vision, into a tangible products or art form : like a song, or a garment.

KA MAG : When did you start to work on this musical project?

AK : I’ve been singing and dreaming about it my whole life, yet I only started writing the songs for this album about a year and a half ago.

KA MAG : What is the  most demanding aspect?

AK : Dealing with myself — my emotions, my personal life distractions. It’s easy to drift off course and I find that the hardest part in the last few years was to get a grip on my true self. To determine ( as much as I can) what I truly want in life. To distance myself from certain things, people and habits that were not conducive to my goals.
