KA — When you are modeling, what do you do to “get in the zone”? DT — Since I am still learning a lot about modeling, I usually dedicate my full attention to the photographer. I like to compare the latter to a guide, or to a stage director, with whom I can collaborate in order to come up with the best. Working with a photographer I trust makes it much simpler and, more importantly, much more pleasant. I also believe that there is always a reason why I am in front of the camera, and that helps me gain confidence during photo shoots. KA — How much does love motivate your choices? DT — Our choices are either motivated by reason or by emotions. Although I used to take pride in making rational and pragmatic decisions, I am starting to realize that more and more of my choices are inspired by passion. Actions that are prompted by these types of choices may not always be objectively “right”, but they are the ones we execute the most successfully. KA — When you are in front of the camera, do you consider yourself still a model? DT — No, not the least bit. I view modeling as a profession like any other. It therefore corresponds to a part of my life, but life cannot amount to just an image. On the other hand, when in front of the camera I still consider myself to be the same person I always was. KA — Do you think that physical “looks” are over rated in the choice of lovers? DT — Certainly, physical looks are and will always be overrated. Yet, while I think it is inevitable that looks factor into our choices, in the end it is the heart that validates them. How often have we loved people who did not correlate with our initially preconceived criteria of beauty?Beauty should not be normative as there is not a single kind of beauty but a whole range of them. True beauty resides in diversity. KA — How important is charity to you? DT — Charity goes both ways in the sense that one receives as much as they give. Personally, I have raised funds and volunteered to help Xuan, an orphanage my father founded in Vietnam, where I spent a summer. That said, I also believe that charity begins at home and I think that we should first start by being caring and generous with our close relatives. In fact, this question reminds me of one of the ending scenes of Sean Penn’s Into the Wild, where the protagonist realizes that “happines s is only real when shared”. KA — Who is Dimitri? DT — Too early to know the answer… but not too late to ponder the question. KA -— What is the thing you like the most about modeling? IP — My favorite aspect about modeling has to be the different characters that I project. When I step out on the set, it has nothing to do with ‘me’ anymore. It is about becoming this other woman with her own story. I love taking on different roles and switching my mind-set. This to me, is very fascinating. KA — What is the biggest change that has occurred in your life, and how are you different today? IP — I try to always live my life in the present moment. Every day there are different obstacles. You are constantly faced with changes in your life that you have no control over. You must adjust to these changes, you simply have to adapt to them and accept them. I have overcome many problems that made me who I am today. Many times, I’m faced with negativity, but I don’t let it get the best of me because there is always a lesson that is learnt which allows me to make smarter choices in the future. KA — If you had to choose between modeling and acting, what would it be? IP — I would do both. They are both very much alike yet different at the same time. In modeling, you are a silent beauty talking with your eyes and your body language… People are always left wondering who this woman really is. In acting, your character is scripted and you evolve on that… People warm up to that person portrayed or not. At the end of the day, both require you to step into a certain character that is not yourself. KA — As models are so visible these days and girls are being introduced to this industry at such a young age, modeling has now become a dream to so many….What do you feel your role is in all this going forward? IP — I think the most important thing is to be real and be who you are. Be composed and mysterious. I want to have a positive influence on people’s lives and inspire them to be their best. KA — What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time? IP — Dream. KA — Who is Ifigenia? IP — Not sure,… Who is she?
